Physical tools are worthless if you don't have skills to utilize them. Knowledge enables us to expand our awareness of the world and navigate it more deeply. At the core of all tools lies the logic (reason) which makes them work. Tools are, in essence, an extension of the mind. They are the physical manifestation of the mental processes of reason. For instance, the hammer was created to extend the leverage power of the human arm. Its form was designed to enable man to drive a nail faster than he could with his own arm. In the same way, all toolls are extensions of the human body and/or mind. The mind is therefore the most versatile tool of all, since it can be used to produce all other tools. By developing the mental processes of reason and knowledge, we make the most profound advances in our development as an explorer. Ultimately, we become better able to create our own tools with their own distinct purposes.

SKILLS

Skills are applications of knowledge. As we become more knowledgeable of how nature works, our skills increase. Fortunately, our number of skills tends to increase with time and life experience. This leads to higher marketability, which enables us to survive more easily and/or earn more money. Both of these can extend and enhance our journey.

The best way to develop your skills is by starting with the basic ones you use the most. in this section are several of these skills which can be developed along your journey. the easier ones are listed first, graduating into the more complex.

Cooking
Food is the most basic need we have. What we consume has an effect on both our physical and mental health - which are both crucial to maintain as an explorer. Navigating the world requires strength and concentration, both of which are contributed to by adequate nutrition.

Fitness
Your body is your temple, and your mind the seat of awareness. Maintaining and developing your body and mind is a key to transcendence.

Travel medicine & First-aid
Exploring the world puts you at a higher health risk than staying put. International and wilderness travel can put you into contact with foreign biological and chemical contaminants which your body may not be prepared to handle. The natural world poses climate, weather, and geographical conditions which can be dangerous (or even deadly) to the explorer. Strong knowledge of risk prevention measures as well as first-aid and medical treatment in case of injury are essential skills for the new-age-nomad to posess.

Backpacking & Wilderness Survival
The portion of the world which has been "civilized" by mankind is much smaller than that which has not. Beyond the chaos of civilization lies a wilderness which holds vast knowledge which we have not yet reached, or have forgotten along the way.

Transportation Maintenance and Repair
Navigating different terrains requires different modes of transportation - depending on where you are going, what you are trying to accomplish, and how fast you want to get there. There are several different vehicles to choose from. When hiking is not the best option you will need to utilize one of the various mechanical vehicles which man has created to get around more efficiently (bicycles, motorcycles, automobiles, boats, etc.). Having knowledge of how these mechines work, and the skills to maintain and repair them when something goes wrong can save you time, effort, and money. These skills can also increase your earning power as they are highly marketable all over the world.

Writing

Writing enables the explorer to verbally communicate his/her experience. Thoughts, feelings, observations, and stories can be explored in words and shared with others.

Photography

Photography is an art medium which allows the explorer to discover and share their visual experience of the world.

Web Design

The web medium allows you to merge many artforms into one. Your writing, photography, video, etc. can be combined and presented in an intricate way. The communication power of the internet allows the explorer to share hi/her experience with people all over the world in an inexpensive way. It is even possible to build your web site while on the move. Web design is also a highly marketable skill which you can use to generate income to continue your journey.
